Key Information
Our PE lessons are on Monday (indoor) and Tuesday (outdoor). Your child can come to school dressed in their PE kits on these days or alternatively can bring it to school to change into.
Everybody has a reading book to take home and we monitor home reading using the Boom Reader app. It is important that we aim to read at home every night, even if it is just two pages and update on Boom Reader when you have read at home. Your child will be given certificates for reading at home.
We will begin to send home spellings to practice at home. There will be new words every Monday and the spelling test will be on Friday.
Autumn 1
We have already had a very exciting start to our new school year as we have just been on a trip to Filey. We are learning about the differences and similarities between Armley and Filey. We will also be looking at the physical and human features of the seaside in our geography lessons.
In English this term we will be reading the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and will be basing our story writing around this story. We will also be writing some instructions for how to make a salad. Our reading spine text is ‘Not Now Bernard’ and we will be exploring this book in our story times.
We will be focussing on number and place value in our maths lessons and exploring numbers to 100. In science, we will be learning about animals, including humans. During the month of October, it is Black History month and we will be learning about the life of Mary Seacole and why she is such an inspiration.
We are looking forward to a busy and fun half term! Well done everyone for settling
Spring 1
We have been learning about the seven continents and then focusing on similarities and differences between the United Kingdom and Australia finally landing in New South Wales on Bondi Beach.
In Year 2 we have been working hard in maths fostering a deeper understanding, problem solving and reasoning skills, with this term’s focus being fractions. We are looking forward to learning about Florence Nightingale and we are excited to announce she may even pay us a visit to consolidate our learning. In science the children will be learning about forces. The children are working hard with daily phonics and reading lessons. Well done Year 2!
