Year 4
Royal Armouries Trip
The Royal Armouries offers a unique and immersive experience for pupils learning about the First World War. During the visit, pupils take part in a high-energy military drill led by a drill sergeant, as well as an interactive medical session with a matron. These activities help pupils to understand advances in medical practice during the war and explore the important role of women in the conflict. This hands-on experience is designed to bring history to life and ensure pupils remember the lessons of the war for years to come.
Murton Park – Roman Day
In the summer term, Year 4 visited Murton Park to experience life as a Roman soldier for the day. The visit offered a fun-packed and hands-on insight into life in a Roman village. Pupils took part in activities such as making clay pots, writing letters using Roman techniques, and even learning how to throw a spear like a Roman soldier! The day brought history to life, giving pupils a memorable experience of Roman life and culture.
Tropical World – Rainforests
As part of the Year 4 geography curriculum, pupils visited Tropical World to support their learning about physical geography and biomes. The visit focused on rainforest environments, where children learned about the animals, plants, and natural resources found in tropical rainforests and compared these to those of a native forest in the UK.
Pupils explored how different environments support different forms of life and investigated similarities and differences between contrasting locations. The session also included activities in the native woodland, where children used scientific skills to age trees and search for native wildlife. This hands-on experience helped pupils develop their geographical understanding of ecosystems and how environments vary around the world.
Spanish Day
As part of their learning in Spanish, pupils took part in a special Spanish Day, linked to the National Curriculum. Miss Cascales-Lopez visited the class to teach the children about life in Spain and introduce them to Spanish words, including correct pronunciation. The children also had the exciting opportunity to try traditional Spanish food, bringing their learning about Spanish culture and language to life in a fun, hands-on way.
