4G and 4J

We are excited to share all the wonderful learning happening in Year 4 this half term.

Autumn 1

Our Learning This Half Term
 ๐Ÿ“English: We are diving into the exciting portal story The Magicianโ€™s Shop, where weโ€™ll be focusing on using interesting vocabulary to create tension and mystery in our writing.
๐Ÿ”ขMaths: Our focus is on place value, working confidently with numbers up to 10,000.
๐Ÿ“šGuided Reading: Together, we are exploring The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, discussing plot, characters and key themes in detail.
๐Ÿ“–Class Novel: We will also enjoy one of Mr Grovesโ€™ favourites โ€“ Kensukeโ€™s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.
๐ŸบHistory: Our topic is World War I, and we are looking forward to a fantastic workshop at the Royal Armouries later this half term.
๐Ÿฆ Science: We are learning about the classification of animals, exploring a variety of vertebrates and invertebrates.
๐ŸPE: Alongside swimming, we are developing our netball skills, practising passing, receiving and scoring.
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธSpanish: This half term we are learning numbers up to 20 and practising some basic greetings โ€“ ยกBueno!
๐ŸŽตMusic: We will be listening to different styles of music and creating some of our own โ€“ how cool!
๐Ÿ˜ŠPSHE: In PSHE, we are focusing on kindness and belonging, exploring how we can support one another and celebrate our differences. This links closely with our school values and helps us build a caring and respectful classroom community.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please ensure children are reading at least three times per week at home and completing their set TT Rockstars sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the Year 4 team.

 

Autumn 2

Our Learning This Half Term
๐Ÿ“ English: We are writing letters as WW1 soldiers, describing life in the trenches with a focus on the Christmas Truce. After this, we will link our writing to our reading by exploring another of Mr Grovesโ€™ favourites โ€“ Charlotteโ€™s Web โ€“ getting to know the characters and discussing key themes.
๐Ÿ”ข Maths: We are learning how to calculate the area of shapes before moving on to written methods for multiplication and division.
๐Ÿ“š Guided Reading: Our guided reading sessions will support our work on Charlotteโ€™s Web, helping us deepen our understanding of the characters and events.
๐Ÿงช Science: Our topic this half term is States of Matter, where we will explore solids, liquids and gases through hands-on investigations.
๐ŸŒ Geography: We are studying Extreme Earth, discovering the powerful forces that shape our planet as we look forward to our exciting trip to Tropical World after Christmas.
๐ŸŠ PE: In PE, we are developing our handball skills and continuing with our swimming lessons.
๐Ÿ™ RE: We are learning about communityโ€”what makes it special, why it is important, and how we can contribute to our own.

Spring 2

Our Learning This Half Term ๐ŸŒผ

Here is a snapshot of what Year 4 will be learning:

๐Ÿ“ English & Reading

We are reading Pax by Sarah Pennypacker. We will explore the themes of the story and focus on the different characters.

๐Ÿ”ข Maths

We will continue developing our understanding of multiplication and division using written methods, before moving on to fractions.

๐ŸŒ Topic โ€“ Rivers

We will learn about how rivers are formed, their key features and why they are important.

โšก Science โ€“ Electricity

We will build simple circuits and learn how electricity works safely.

๐Ÿ PE

We will learn the skills for volleyball and continue our swimming lessons.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spanish

Our topic is My Family, where we will learn to name and describe family members.

We will focus on correct letter formation and neat, joined handwriting.
