Nursery 1

Ladybirds and Butterflies

Hello!

We're made up of the Lady bird and the Butterfly rooms.

Our room accommodates children from 2 to 3 years. These rooms are the smaller rooms with a capacity of 12 children per day. Having a smaller capacity enables us to have more one to one with the children.  When planning fun activities, we follow the EYFS (early year’s foundation stage) guidance. These activities are not only fun, but they also support the children in all areas of development.

We have a lovely outdoor space and enjoy playing out every day, come rain or shine, so everyone comes prepared for all weathers, from sun cream and sun hats to wellies and waterproofs!

Our daily routine in our Nursery 1 rooms are relaxed but with all the importance of developing and nurturing all our children. We have wake up shake up every morning and afternoon so we can ‘shake our silly’s out’.

There are a wide variety of activities for children to access; they will still be able to experience natural materials such as sand and water, as well as taking part in role-play, dressing up and construction activities. Children will also take part in early maths activities such as colour and shape recognition via matching and sorting, as well as activities to develop early reading skills such as listening and rhyming stories and songs.

There are always lots of creative activities going on. We have painting, box modelling, sensory trays or a bit of exploring the dedicated mark making area. A cosy book corner offers space for quiet time, sharing stories with friends or group activities. We promote healthy hygiene and encourage independence, learning to wash our hands and brushing our teeth which we do twice a day. We have snack time twice a day which helps develop the children’s social skills and manners.  We like to share observations with our parents and send out a weekly email showing what their child has been doing during the week. This also gives our parents an opportunity to add any photos from home. We hope to see your little one soon joining our Ladybirds team.

If you would like to contact the Ladybird or Butterfly team, you can now do so via email. These emails are not checked every day, so if it is important, please speak to a member of staff on the door, or call the nursery building.

💪🏻Physical Development

This term in the Nursery 1 rooms we have been developing our fine motor skills, we have all been looking at our new books individually and in small groups. The children have enjoyed turning the pages to see what they can discover on the next page. We have also been learning about Health and Self Care, letting children choose their own snacks, and learning to drink form a cup independently.

In the garden we will be developing our gross motor skills by kicking a stationary ball using either foot.

🗣️Communication and Language

We are focusing on rhymes and actions, to develop the children’s listening and attention skills. We have recently sent home the rhyme, ‘Incy Wincey Spider’ for parents to learn with their children and to make some stick puppets with the resources supplied.

We will be extending children’s language that are beginning to put 2 words together, by adding more words for them to learn.

Our children are developing skills to follow simple instructions through the day.

😊Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We have been concentrating on building relationships with both the parents and the children in the Nursery 1 rooms. At the beginning of term we arranged some home visits, to meet the children in their own environment. We are developing strong relationships with our key children, by spending time in our key groups, reading stories and learning everyone’s names, we want our children to feel confident in seeking comfort from a familiar adult.

We have lots of different resources out for the children to choose from, so the children can express their preferences about the activities they enjoy.

It has been a pleasure welcoming back our older children, meeting and making new relationships with our new younger children.
