We have an exciting year ahead!
Autumn 1 - Learning highlights!
- 📖 English: In English, we will be exploring the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Children will retell the story using their own words, learn to describe characters and settings in detail, and even have a go at creating their own versions of the story. This will help develop creativity, vocabulary, and confidence in writing.
- 🔢 Maths: In Maths, we will be strengthening our understanding of place value, making sure children are confident with numbers up to 100. We’ll be practising partitioning numbers, comparing and ordering them, and using these skills to solve addition and subtraction problems. Lots of practical activities and games will make learning fun and hands-on.
- 🔬 Science: Science will take us on an exploration of the animal kingdom! We’ll be learning about the five main animal groups – mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles – and what makes each one special. The children will become animal experts, sorting and classifying, and thinking about how animals survive in their habitats.
- 🏺 History: In History, we’ll become time-travellers as we find out about brave explorers who changed the world. We’ll learn about Christopher Columbus’s voyages across the sea and Neil Armstrong’s journey into space, comparing their achievements and thinking about the challenges they faced. This will inspire us to think about the importance of curiosity and courage.
- 📚 Reading: In Reading, we are continuing with the Read Write Inc programme, which supports every child at their level. This half term we’ll place a special focus on fluency and comprehension – helping children not just to read the words, but to understand and enjoy the stories they are reading. We’ll also encourage a love of books through class stories and independent reading time.
