School Council

Our school council do a very important job and are a vital team for us at Castleton.

They make decisions on:

  • Events in school, such as New Wortley Community fun day, the grand opening of the school library and a visit to Leeds Town Hall;
  • Recruitment, interviewing potential new teachers;
  • How the school budget is spent, liaising with Mrs Evans to buy resources such as games and sports equipment'
  • Learning resources, such as buying a class set of iPads;
  • Improvements to our school site, such as the new pavilion in the playground.

The council is elected each year and this year, one treat was to visit Leeds Town Hall to see how the local council works. Our very first meeting was opened by West Leeds Councillor, Jim McKenna, who told us lots of stories about his life and work as a Leeds councillor.
