'Unlocking Potential'

Egypt and climate zones

Overview

In this unit, the children will explore the hot and cold climate zones around the world and delve deep into the country of Egypt. Children will learn about the five lines of latitude and be able to explain that climate is affected by location in relation to this. Children will gain knowledge of different climate zones (polar, tropical, temperate, Mediterranean and arid), comparing the climate in the UK to Egypt. In this unit, children look at the continent of Africa and delve into the transcontinental country – Egypt. Children will develop their knowledge of Egypt by learning about its river (Nile), desert (Sahara), urban/rural areas, jobs, homes and exports as well as the countries most valuable resources (oil and gas). Children will use world maps and globes to locate lines of latitude, continents and African countries.
