Curriculum

At Castleton Primary School, we follow the National Curriculum for England. We maintain high standards and high expectations in the teaching and learning of all curriculum subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Art and Design
  • Computing
  • Geography
  • History
  • Music
  • PE
  • French (KS2 only)
  • Religious Education (following Leeds Agreed Syllabus for RE)

We aim to ensure that all children are taught the essential knowledge and skills in the key subjects of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. This will enable them to leave primary school ready for the secondary curriculum and beyond. In addition, it will allow them to access other areas of the curriculum, so that they can unlock their full potential.

We also believe that children should be taught the values that help them to develop their resilience, independence and perseverance, which helps them to become effective learners, as well as good citizens within the school and wider community, now and in the future. Please see the Values and Ethos page in the “Our School” section.

Therefore, in addition to the teaching and learning of curriculum subjects, we also provide our learners with additional experiences, such as participating in the Go-Givers project (a leading national programme created to develop caring, concerned citizens with the confidence and skills to make a difference to their communities).
